Kiplinger, the business and personal finance magazine, has removed Claremont McKenna from its 2011-2012 list of “Best Values in Private Colleges” following the SAT scandal.
Like many students, disbelief was Claremont McKenna President Pamela Gann’s first reaction when she heard the extent of the incident involving false reporting of the college’s SAT scores to ranking agencies and the U.S. Department of Education.
The manipulation of reported SAT scores of incoming Claremont McKenna students was systematic and involved the vast majority of the data points that CMC had reported.
Claremont McKenna College President Pamela Gann reported to the CMC community that since 2005, the Office of Admission has inflated its reported SAT test scores for incoming classes.
At a civil disobedience action protesting yesterday’s firing of 17 Pomona dining hall workers, 15 workers, students, professors and alumni were arrested by the Claremont Police Department. Updated w/ blotter.
At UC Davis, seated, non-violent student protesters were casually pepper-sprayed by University of California Police Department Lt. John Pike. The Port Side asked Campus Safety director Shahram Ariane about Claremont’s policies.
“It’s interesting what discourse you can have with hundreds of people packed together,” said Avery Barger PZ ‘12. Saturday, a Global Day of Action for the Occupy movement, featured ten to fifteen thousand Angelenos marching to Pershing Square.
“Immediately evacuate the campus to the SOUTH and get at least 1 mile away. This is NOT a drill!” said a text message sent to many students Monday morning. There was no emergency.
