So when it comes to governing our college, what are CMC students concerned about? When I arrived on campus in fall 2009, upperclassmen were abuzz about two things: the cancellation of Sunday night snack and the possibility that the new Dean of Students threatened our lenient drinking policy.
As their first order of business, the new ASCMC Executive Board invoked a section of the constitutional constitution to cut off the College’s ties with the other four Claremont Colleges, effectively declaring CMC’s secession.
President Pamela Gann, speaking to ASCMC Senate, announced Monday that the independent investigation into the SAT scandal is “nearing completion” and its report will be released publicly on the College’s website. Gann also discussed the College’s master plan, faculty hirings, and “globalization” programs.
Tonight, Claremont McKenna College President Pamela Gann will address students at the ASCMC Senate Meeting. This will be the first time that President Gann has spoken publicly with the student body since the SAT scandal hit the College at the end of January.
At Sunday’s meeting, which was open to the public, the Board considered the stipend increases and after extensive discussion and debate ended up rejecting almost all of them.
Raising the constitutional limits on stipends means raising the maximum amount of money ASCMC Budget Committee may allocate to be paid to officers; in practice, it means raising their salaries.

If Senate truly seeks to uphold its constitutional role in representing all CMC students, the live-stream was far from “unnecessary.” If Senate was truly concerned with the event’s candor, then they also voted the wrong way.
