On May 1, Jeff Huang, CMC’s current Vice President for Student Affairs, will take on a new role as Vice President for Admission, Financial Aid, and Student Affairs. The Port Side sat down with Dean Huang to discuss his new position.
On Tuesday, President Obama hosted a conference call with college journalists to discuss the impending increase in Stafford loan interest rates set to kick in this July and to encourage students and young Americans to contact Congress in support of extending the low interest rates currently in place.
On July 1, 2012, students across the nation will see the interest rates on their Subsidized Stafford Federal Student Loans double from 3.4 to 6.8 percent. Unless Congress extends the lowered interest rates, average borrowers may have to pay $2,500 more in interest.
During the last two semesters, students studying at the library have experienced numerous problems, and subsequent headaches, trying to connect to the library’s CINE, CLAREMONT and CLAREMONT-WPA wireless networks.
As their first order of business, the new ASCMC Executive Board invoked a section of the constitutional constitution to cut off the College’s ties with the other four Claremont Colleges, effectively declaring CMC’s secession.
Congresswoman Judy Chu is coming to Claremont on Friday. Chu, first elected to Congress in 2009, will be running in Claremont’s newly constructed 27th Congressional district and will likely become our next Congressional representative.
This year, the room draw process at Claremont McKenna College became even more stressful than usual for some students. Thanks to a “software glitch,” the computer that the Dean of Students Office (DOS) uses to randomly assign room draw numbers made a significant amount of errors.

Gender-neutral housing is “housing where roommate selection is not restricted by biological sex, gender identity, or gender expression.”
